Cheap Wii Games

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Here are some cheap Wii games we’ve spotted around the web:

My Word Coach - $14.99
George of the Jungle - $14.99
Dave Mirra BMX Challenge - $14.99
London Taxi Rush Hour - $9.99
Myth Makers Orbs Of Doom - $9.99
Monster Trux Offroad - $9.99
Bratz The Movie - $9.98

Just because they’re cheap doesn’t make them good, but at these prices, they’re hard to pass up.

Lifehacker also has a very nice article on the original hacks for Wii, including the DVD playing hack.  Please check them out!

How Do You Feel About Wii Violence?

Friday, August 15th, 2008

Dan Rosenberg just posted an article about violence in Wii games, and how there isn’t enough of it to satisfy the “gamer bloodlust” that PS3 and XBox gamers get in their titles.

How do you feel about this?  With Nintendo’s advances in inter-personal gaming with titles like Mario Kart and the general idea of shareable Miis, are you missing the absolute gore that you might have had before the Wii?  There certainly are some gory games - No More Heroes, for example, and any of the FPS titles like the Medal of Honor series and the Call of Duty games.

Are you missing the gore?  Post in the comments.

(the title that I believe spawned Dan’s article is MadWorld - which isn’t being released until March 31, 2009 - but is available for pre-order.)

Wiimote Mods!

Friday, August 15th, 2008

I just stumbled across a website (thanks to Make Mag) that is a must-see for wiimote modders: Wiimotemods.com.  This site is chock full of excellent wiimote LED mods and button backlight mods - a great addition to your regular RSS feeds for Wii.

Check out this article on adding flashing LED’s to your rumbling wiimote.  Excellent step-by-step instruction with plenty of images and pointers.  Thanks, Wiimote Mods!

Amazon Interesting Deals for August 13

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

So, in a mood of total randomness, here’s some deals from Amazon.

We love Nyko accessories, and the price has dropped a bit on the Wii Charge Station. Some friends of ours have this, and seem to like it. We here at We Know Wii have not purchased this yet, as we use our wiimotes to drain our dying AA batteries. Amazon has this on sale for $25.99.

Next on the list, the amazing, all-powerful, wonderful, gameplay-changing Nyko Wireless Sensor Bar. Amazon has this for $17.99, and We Know Wii *highly* recommends this!

More of these to come, as I’m always checking for the best deals.

Wii Hacks: An Arduino and Wii-mote Powerered Canoe

Wii Hacks: Wii Media Center X

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Hackzine has linked to a very cool site - RedKawa’s instructions on creating a Wii Media Center.

The main components of this hack are based around the Wii Internet Channel (which you can purchase with Wii Points), and the videos that you can stream need to be in FLV format (flash).

Check out the RedKawa site for the software and tutorials for this cool hack.

DecaSports Sells 700,000 Units Worldwide

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Konami’s DecaSports has reported to have sold 700,000 units worldwide, as of August 1, 2008.  From WorthPlaying’s blog:

“Deca Sporta” was first released in March 2008 in Japan, followed with its release in the U.S. in May as Deca Sports. The title was then released in Europe as “Sports Island” in June of this year. As of August 1st, a total of 700,000 units have been shipped, and the game is anticipated to become a title that will be played by Wii owners for years to come.

Amazon reviews are so-so on this game, but we enjoy the mini-games.  We’ll be making our own recommendation in weeks to come.
