Apparently for the FIRST TIME EVER, Amazon is going to have a bunch of game deals in their Friday Gold Box Deals! If you haven’t done this or tried it, Gold Box deals are pretty cool – just random deals based on a category or topic, and they’re usually pretty good. We missed a deal a few months ago on an $800 elliptical trainer for $200 bucks off of the retail price. I’m sure you can imagine how hard we kicked ourselves.
Here’s how it will work:
- At 12:01 AM PST the first deal will be the Gold Box Deal of the Day. Its special discounted price will be available all day only on Friday, June 27 (or until Amazon run out.)
- Starting at 6:00 AM PST, the second deal will be featured as a Lightning Deal. This special price will be available for the following two hours.
- Each of the seven remaining deals will also be Lightning Deals. Starting every two hours that follow at 8:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 2:00 PM, 4:00 PM, and 6:00 PM PST, and 8:00 PM each deal will be available for two hours after it begins.
- Discounts on each deal will be available only while supplies last.
They mean it too – if it’s gone, it’s gone, and you’ve missed out.
Remember – this starts at MIDNIGHT on Friday, so that means in about eleven hours. We’re looking forward to seeing what kind of games we’re gonna be able to snag!
Check it out for yourselves! Amazon Gold Box Deals for Nintendo Games.

Today’s Amazon Gold Box is loaded up with Wii game deals. Super Paper Mario and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn have already sold out. At least 2 of the 3 “Lightning Deals” left for today hint at being Wii games. The next one will show up at noon Central.

Today only, Amazon has Trauma Center: New Blood for $29.99. This is $20 off the retail price, and shipping is free.
Trauma Center: New Blood is one of my favorite Wii games. I tend to like the nerdier titles, and not shooter-type games. This game fits the bill. It’s entertaining and does not have a lot of movement on screen (which tends to give me a headache).
The game makes good use of the Wii controllers to manipulate the surgical tools (you will need a nunchuk to play). The storyline can be a bit odd and lengthy, but you can skip past them by pressing the minus (-) button during the heavy dialogue. After you get past the introductory story for each level, the surgeries themselves are fun to complete. With the game’s two-player mode, two people collaborate on the same surgery.
Trauma Center: New Blood is challenging, even in easy mode: right now I’m stuck on a level where I have to complete 3 surgeries in 10 minutes. I’ve found the walkthrough on IGN to be helpful when I get stuck on a level.
I paid full retail price for this game, and feel that I got my money’s worth. At $29.99, it’s an even better deal.

Through Saturday, you can buy two Wii games for $30 at BestBuy.com. The games are regularly priced at $19.99, saving you $10. The are eleven titles to choose from, including Mercury Meltdown Revolution, which I enjoy and recommend, especially at this price point.

Amazon has Battalion Wars 2 on sale for $32.99, down from $49.99. This offer may be good for today only. Jim’s been eyeing this one, so I think we’ll grab it now at this low price.

I have, as of late, found myself very much addicted to Wii Sports‘ Golf. I have driven my score well above “pro” status, and it’s a ton of fun every time I start playing. The basic gist of Wii Sports Golf is nothing terribly fancy – either a 3-tier, 3-hole challenge that places you on 3 holes of the course based on their difficulty level (beginner, intermediate, or advanced), or a 9-hole game. Controls for Wii Sports Golf are pretty basic, and I have found that they actually work more efficiently and consistently if you swing the remote like you would a golf club. I have had some difficulties with putting, which seems to be the most complicated bit of Wii Sports Golf – the velocity and angle in which you swing the putter seem to be a bit of a challenge from time to time. However, this gets better with each game, and I’ve been hitting in lots of 30 to 50 foot puts lately!
There is an accessory if you so choose to purchase it – a little golf club head extension for your remote. It’s cute. The best value seems to be to purchase Intec’s Wii Ultimate Action Pack – it comes with a baseball bat extension, a tennis racket extension, a little sword extension, and the golf club – all for under 20 bucks. Check it out.

Wal-Mart has Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii
available for pre-order at $19.82 today. I’ve seen this at $49.99 elsewhere. Grab it while you can.
Update: The deal appears to be dead.
Update #2: As sometimes happens, this deal was too good to be true. It was a typo on the site, and all orders at this price have been canceled. Bummer!

You can save 25% all in-stock used video games and DVDs at GameStop.com
using coupon code AFF25. This offer is not valid on bundled items, consoles, or accessories. Our local GameStop had a slim selection of used Wii games, but it looks like the GameStop.com web site has a sizable offering.

Amazon now has Cooking Mama: Cook Off for $29.99. I can’t decide if I’m interested in this game or not. I typically go for dorkier storylines, and “fastpreneur” games, so I think I might like it, but then I read the reviews on Amazon and think maybe I’m too old for this. The <$30 price tag makes me give this game more consideration.
