Using the Wii Balance Board and Wiimote/Nunchuk combo, you climb a rock wall. It’s as easy as that. At the Game Developers Conference that just happened, the Rock and Roll Climber game was previewed. The weirdest part? As soon as you negotiate the wall, the character grabs a guitar out of the ground and pulls off a heavy metal lick.
Well, that’s - um - hey cool!
The interface looks pretty cool - the Balance Board detects balance shifting, and the climbing controls look interesting. I’ll reserve judgement.
I read a hack today about a homebrew gamed called the Swiitboard - there is a site dedicated to making this Swiitboard, and you have to check it out. There are several videos there for you to use.
Nintendo put out a press release yesterday (December 15) about some new WiiWare titles. Check it out!
WiiWare Strong Bad Episode 5: 8-Bit Is Enough (Telltale Games, 1 player, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older-Mild Cartoon Violence, Comic Mischief, Mild Suggestive Themes, 1,000 Wii Points): Trogdor, the beefy-armed dragon of legend, has shaken free from his video game and is running through the countryside, “burninating” everything in sight. With a dragon on the loose and 8-bit classics leaking into the real world, it’s all fun and games until the proud land of Strong Badia falls to Trogdor’s fiery wrath. Now Strong Bad must take back the night by sending this scorching menace back into his arcade cabinet once and for all. Just one problem: Does anybody know how to kill a dragon?
Big Kahuna Party (Reflexive Entertainment Inc., 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone, 700 Wii Points): Embark on a tropical adventure with the explosively charged Big Kahuna Party. Looking to make the ultimate party game, we started with a concept that’s accessible to the whole family-the popular match-three game. On top of that, we crafted a unique multiplayer experience in which you can choose to work together to complete the challenging levels before the timer runs out, or go head-to-head and compete in a frenzy of fun. To top it off, we added 99 uniquely free-flowing levels, the challenging Tiki Pole, 20 hidden tropical sea creatures to unlock, the strategic Fish Net and more. The result is a family party game like no other, easy to pick up but impossible to put down. Play alone or with friends, and unleash the Tiki spirit within.
Virtual Console Enduro Racer (SEGA Master System, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Based on the popular SEGA arcade game and redesigned for the SEGA Master System, Enduro Racer takes you on an intense set of adrenaline-designed courses containing diverse and rough terrain that will test your skills and reaction time. Ride as fast as you can to pass as many cars and bikes as possible while also avoiding obstacles and pitfalls such as debris on the road. Take jumps off ramps and try to keep your speed up, but make sure to keep an eye on your bike so it doesn’t blow up in your face. Are you ready for the challenge?
Guitar Hero World Tour is going to be sporting some huge rock acts - specifically The Eagles, Nirvana, and The Smashing Pumpkins. According to a press release from Activision, sing packs will be available for download pretty soon. Check it out!
An article at G4TV tells of an impending project by the makers of Q Entertainment games. From the article:
“Q Entertainment’s Tetsuya Mizuguchi is developing a new Wii music game for Atari, the publisher said today. The game currently goes by the working title ‘QJ’. Atari, which is holding a winter press event this afternoon, also just announced that it plans to release a boxed compilation disc consisting of Rez HD, Lumines Live and Every Extend Extra Extreme including all available downloadable content.”
The US Patent Office kind of balked at Nintendo’s request to patent the term Wii Remote back in March. According to GamePolitics, there’s a small television remote control manufacturer in FL that makes a device called a “WeeMote,” geared towards children, and has owned the patent to “WeeMote” since 2000. Nintendo had some discussions with this manufacturer, Forbis Technologies. Nintendo walked away from those talks. The suspension was sent November 26, or at least dated then.
I did not know that. I learn something new every day.
Wiiware World posted an article about the top twenty WiiWare games from stats in the good ol’ USA. The list was made on 3 December 2008, so this might have changed a little since then.

I hear that World of Goo is a great, great game. Any reviewers care to comment?
Remember, you need Wii Points for WiiWare. World of Goo is 1500 Wii Points in itself - get a Wii Points Card, or two! Wii points seem to be about a penny a point lately, or a buck per 100.
Amazon’s got the Wii Classic Controller down three bucks to $16.96. I bought two of these at full price a year or so ago because I wanted to play StarTropics and F-Zero on WiiWare. They’re decent controllers!
For some reason I have been playing a LOT of Wii Tennis lately. As with all of the games on Wii Sports, there are all kinds of “hand”-iworking you can do with the Wiimote. I found a great post on Wanderings.net about Wii Tennis tips and tricks. Check it out.
This game releases on November 17 (WHICH IS TODAY) according to Amazon, who offers it up for pre-order. I found a review here from Destructoid - make your own opinions, of course!
Amazon has Super Mario Galaxy marked down for $36.99. If you’ve not ever played this, you’re really missing out. FInishing this game is one heck of a rewarding thing!
If you have time to watch a 9 minute video, watch the one below. If not, just watch the trailer for Super Mario Galaxy below it.
It’s ready for pre-order now, with a release date on November 17 (which is in 5 days) - Need for Speed: Undercover is the newest of titles from EA for Wii. Check out this trailer, and go preorder your copy.
When PS2 was my big gaming system, Grand Theft Auto III was second only to the SSX series of snowboarding games. With SSX Blur now out for Wii, all I need is some GTA action for Wii, and it’s all gravy. Apparently there is something in the works right now, with Take Two dropping some news bytes about a Wii GTA game title. From the article at Chattahbox:
This was backed up by Take-Two CEO Ben Feder who recently stated “We continue to build that relationship. GTA Chinatown Wars is not even the first step but certainly an important step in continuing to develop that relationship.”
Let’s keep the fingers crossed! A Wii GTA would rock my world.
Off topic, SSX Blur for Wii is twenty eight bucks. It was fifty.
Do you remember Albino Blacksheep? I mean, it’s not like they’re dead - quite the opposite - but I remember it being very popular back in undergraduate school for some reason. So, we’re talking 2002-2003. Remember Defend Your Castle? It’s also not just a flash game anymore, it’s on WiiWare!
Defend Your Castle takes place on a grassy plain surrounded by invaders. You are the commander of your castle, and at your disposal is only a hand for picking up the enemy and flinging them to their doom. Over time, add power-ups and other weapons to your arsenal to repel the attacks. How long can you hold them off?
Those crafty barbarian hordes have amassed their forces once again to challenge your domain. Will you and your court rise to the challenge, or stand aside as they raze your Castle to the ground?
You are the commander of your castle, and it is your duty to pick up the enemy and mercilessly fling them to their demise. Perform this task well, for the invaders you face are numerous and employ many different types of soldiers in their quest for your castle.
Excellent! 500 Wii Points, and you’re defending your castle. Just like in the Flash game. Except you’re not in your PJ’s in front of the computer, at 3:45 in the morning.
After the first fishing games post, I found another fishing game. As in found, meaning I stumbled upon it. Wii Hooked! by Aksys comes with a fishing controller rig for the wiimote, and decent customer reviews.
Wii Hooked! has up to 4 online multiplayers - for all of your, uh, online multiplayer fishing needs!
Check it out, it’s $49.99 right now (September 8, 2008) and it seems as though there’s a little bit of a backorder. There are some used copies as well, that’s never a bad idea.
There are several pages of accessories listed - a word to the wise though, always read ratings, even if you don’t take other people’s word for it. Remember, caveat emptor!
So, in a mood of total randomness, here’s some deals from Amazon.
We love Nyko accessories, and the price has dropped a bit on the Wii Charge Station. Some friends of ours have this, and seem to like it. We here at We Know Wii have not purchased this yet, as we use our wiimotes to drain our dying AA batteries. Amazon has this on sale for $25.99.
Next on the list, the amazing, all-powerful, wonderful, gameplay-changing Nyko Wireless Sensor Bar. Amazon has this for $17.99, and We Know Wii *highly* recommends this!
More of these to come, as I’m always checking for the best deals.
WeKnowWii went from several posts a day to nil posts a day in the last few days. We’re not neglecting our reader base, we promise - your editors are moving to Denver, Colorado. We’ve been packing up the house, hunting for a new place, and trying to get all of the details together. All of this madness will conclude in a few days, and we’ll be back to business as usual!
Thanks in advance for your patience!
