Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

There’s a title that I’ve heard lots of ups and downs about, and I wanted to post about it to get some opinions.  For twenty bucks, you can’t really be losing out too much – but I am interested in your opinions.

Blazing Angels:  Squadrons of WWII is a title that has an average 3.5 on Amazon, but 1Up.com gives it an F.  What’s up with that?  I find that, not unlike movies, I have to give it my own try and make my own decision.  Some of my favorite games have been like this – like SSX Blur.  You should know that this is a flying shooter, and not a flight simulator.  This is a title about kicking some Nazi tails while flying your 40 unlockable WWII planes on campaigns ranging from protecting bridges, escorting other planes, and downright dogfighting.  Reviews are all over the chart on this one, with lots of them saying the good outweighs the bad.

Some screens:

I’m interested to know your thoughts.  Anyone?  Are there fans and haters out there?  Let us know!

Sky Crawlers Trailer

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

Oh wow.

Sky Crawlers, Namco Bandai’s anime-based flight title, has a pretty sweet trailer.  You should most definitely check this title out, when it gets released to the US.  It’s out right now in Japan; if there are any WeKnowWii readers in Japan (こんにちは、よい友人) let us know how it is to play!

New Film by Mamoru Oshii Becomes a Flight Sim for Wii

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

There is quite a lot of buzz about a new flight simulator for Wii – Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces is slated for an Autumn release in Japan; no Europe release is scheduled so far.

From GameLife:

The Ghost In The Shell director’s highly anticipated new film, The Sky Crawlers, comes out in Japan on August 2nd. The film is based on a series of novels — five to date — that follows a group of dogfighting pilots in a fictionalized World War II-like setting.

Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces, from Bandai Namco and being developed by the team behind the popular Ace Combat series, will be an air combat simulator made specifically for the Wii console.

Controls in the game will put emphasis on use of the Wiimote for the throttle and the Nunchuk as the control stick. Although the game is inspired by the series of novels and the new film, it will offer an original storyline.

Hopefully US gamers will see this sooner or later – looks like a cool title.
