Problem Solving 101: No Wireless Internet? Check This Out!

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

PC Live Magazine posted an article about a device that gives you the ability to connect your Wii to the Internet, even if you can’t utilize the wireless connectivity and networking abilities of the Wii console. The AirLive EtherWe-1000U Adapter is a plug-and-play adaptor that, once plugged into the USB ports on your Wii console, connects you to the internet - no headaches, no problems. You don’t need a wireless router, and you don’t need anything but an RJ-45 connection into your modem.

Wii Maneuvering VS Hand-Held Controller - your thoughts?

Friday, May 30th, 2008

I’ve been reading a lot of stories out there about people complaining about getting up off the couch to play Wii - some folks apparently like having a handheld controller like those for PS2, PS3, and XBox. I can see both sides of the story, being an avid PS2 fan (and let me tell you, I LOVE my Logitech Wireless PS2 controllers, sorry for the shameless plug) I am glad that my family has discovered the get-off-your-tukus stylings of Wii and games like SSX Blur for Wii. I love the SSX series with a handheld controller, and I was mindblown to go flying down the mountain standing up - the ONLY way to really enjoy SSX Blur! Try it!

What are your controller thoughts? Post in the comments, we’d love to hear from you.

The NYKO Sensor Bar for Wii saved the day!

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

A few months ago we made a post about the NYKO Wireless Sensor Bar for the Wii - a wireless, battery powered device that is supposed to boost the wii-mote’s distance from the TV and just be all-around more powerful.

Well, come to find out ALL of these are true, plus a few more pieces of awesomeness!

I have been playing Medal of Honor: Vanguard over the last few days (a review is coming!) and I had been having ridiculous trouble with the action on the screen - the controller would act like it lost signal, bouncing all over the place, making me lose lives, score, et al. While out shopping this evening we decided to get a NYKO Sensor Bar to see if our Wii-issue sensor bar had some issues. When I got home and tried it out, I was astonished with the detail, accuracy, and overall signal strength that we have now with the new sensor bar! Thanks NYKO!

Did I mention, also, that it’s WIRELESS?!

Operating the sensor bar is - well, there really is no operation. Hit the button on the right when you want to use it, hold the button down until the blue light power_led1.jpggoes away when you’re done. Since it does use AA batteries (X4) for power, it has a switch on the rear of the bar that gives you a warning every our, two hours, or not at all to remind you to turn it off when you’re done Wii-ing.

I actually left the wired stock-Wii sensor bar plugged in for dual-triangulation-fun. I went into the kitchen (25 feet away) and was able to maneuvre like I was 6 feet from the TV!

Check out the NYKO Wireless Sensor at Amazon - it’s cheap, and WiKnowWii says it’s an awesome addition to your Wii gaming experience.

NYKO Makes the Nunchuk Cord-Free

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

cord-freewii.jpgAccessory company NYKO has produced a solution for a “problem” that apparently exists with Wii users - the really small cable that goes from the wiimote to the nunchuk. NYKO has created a wireless transmitter that takes that cable completely out of the loop and makes the Wii completely wireless. Once again, NYKO has brought  another innovative product to the world of Wii.  From the NYKO website:

The Cord-Free is a unique wireless adaptor for the Wii Nunchuk that easily converts your wired Nunchuk in to a wireless peripheral for your Wii remote. The ergonomic sleeve easily holds and organizes the Nunchuk, cable and batteries providing a compact, clean and convenient conversion system for the Nunchuk. Once the Nunchuk is inserted in the sleeve, you can now enjoy full wireless freedom with all your favorite Wii games without the hassle of any wires tethering your hands together.

Well, Wii Gamers, if you have the desire to take every single cable out of the loop between the player and the console, this new item from NYKO is your solution. What this writer has to ask about this new product, all of its awesomeness put aside: what kinds of excellent games are you playing that require no wire?
